Finding the right therapist is critical in the effectiveness and success of the therapy process. This involves building rapport in establishing a therapeutic relationship and feeling comfortable and safe in sharing confidential information with your therapist. Your therapist should be a source of support on your path towards personal growth as you navigate the ups and downs of life.

It's normal to feel worried or unsure about what to expect from therapy. Your first intake session is for setting expectations and starting to build trust between you both. Your therapist will go over informed consent, confidentiality policy, limits to confidentiality, cancellation policy, fees, schedules, and will answer any questions you have regarding their background and qualifications. Your therapist should should also give you space to explain and discuss what you want to get out of therapy, goals, and any worries or concerns you have about the therapy process.
  • What are the benefits of therapy?
Therapy helps you learn how your own mind works. It allows you to navigate your feelings, provide emotional support, develop problem-solving skills, build healthier behaviors, and change your mindset so that your life looks more like you want. Many people are resistant to the idea of participating in therapy when they first start struggling with their mental health, but they soon find it very relevant on their path towards personal growth and development, leading to positive change. The results you seek are contingent on the effort and work you put into the therapeutic process.
